lol. presidential election.
most probably I'm gonna vote for Tan Kin Lian.
People will probably condemn me for not voting Tan Jee Say.
But, to be honest, I think only when the government has a stronger opposition force within itself then I would vote for TJS.
If not, nothing's gonna change. PAP will most probably create chaos and then blame TJS (if he's president) for all the problems just because he's from an opposition party. OR, they will nit pick at the slightest thing that tan jee say do and probably shame him.
PAP is the dirtiest party. i wonder why they wear white when all they do is play dirty.
Okay anyway, here are the reasons why I'm voting for Tan Kin Lian.
Sure, his spoken english is not as fluent as the others.
BUT.
1. I think he as president will demote elitism. He doesnt have prestigious background, yet he managed to make it big while holding on to his values.
2. I think he is more representative of the people. In the sense that he is a TRUE BLUE SINGAPOREAN WHO LOVES his country. even the shirt he's wearing in his wikipedia page has orchid prints. WHICH OTHER CANDIDATES HAS THAT?!
3. HE IS ALWAYS SO HAPPY AND POSITIVE. Its not the fake happiness that PAP wear on their faces. He just radiates positivity! His happiness makes me wanna strive for my country. His answers are the most honest to me.
4. He will definitely promote the culture and heritage that Singapore had lost ever since PAP decided to make Singapore a cosmopolitan city. C'mon which other candidates gives you this vibe? Sure, Tan Cheng Bock helped relocate a temple. But, he's not a walking representation of our heritage. BUT TAN KIN LIAN IS. he has like temple written all over him. Okay, this may not be fair to other races/religion, but to be honest, when I look at his wiki photo, somehow it reminds me of Little India too. LOL. Okay erm, he just somehow reminds me of the old Singapore I grew up in when I was in primary school.
5. Under him, the young will probably have more morals. He just reminds me of CME (civics and moral Education) no, i mean more like hao gong min (good citizen) the one we learn in primary school. Yes, he makes me wanna be a hao gong min.
ANYWAY, the President will probably once again just be a figure head. with little power to change policies etc.
SO then, if its just gonna be a picture on the wall/a person shown on tv to cut ribbon, I rather Tan Kin Lian, a happy faced president. I mean compared to the orh bin (black face)sr nathan who really looks so grumpy all the time.
Looking at life after GE, WHAT radical change has been done to Singapore's political scene? to me, nothing much. Just more conflict between the opposition and incumbent party. like a heated exchange of words. and then? nothing changed. PAP still has too much control.
seriously, I feel there shouldnt be institutions supporting any candidates. voters should vote individually without any pressure from whatever institution they come from. and those that dont know who to vote should just spoil their vote. this will create a fairer election. And it will be more representative of the choice made by the people. one more thing. newspaper should cease printing on the elections during the election. The candidates should publish their own papers if they want to spread their message across. NEWSPAPER SHOULD NEVER INFLUENCE VOTES.
anyway, this is for you TONY TAN t(^.^t) for not giving TJS a chance to finish talking yet feeling that you are in the position to reprimand the people that booed you saying that its "Deeply disappointing to have people who will not listen." Ha. you are one of them.
